Attorney — Tips & tricks
Speed
- Learn three goto chords first: G M (matters), G I (inbox), G E (evidence).
- Keep the Timer running and switch matters instead of reconstructing time at night.
- Use New matter / Invite client from the top bar instead of hunting menus.
- Clear AI Review in the same sitting you generate drafts so nothing sits unreviewed.
Matter hygiene
- Name matters so anyone on the firm can identify the client and case type at a glance.
- Put jurisdiction and matter type in correctly at create time — reporting and rules packs depend on it.
- Prefer one real pilot matter before inviting clients.
- Attach a one-line description to every evidence upload (“text thread 2026-06-12 school pickup”).
AI that stays safe
- Prompt with the specific document or question you need; avoid dumping unrelated matters into one ask.
- Always open the draft in AI Review before copy/paste into email or pleadings.
- If Donna or Document Workflow suggests a filing or client send, treat it as a proposal.
- Never paste opposing-counsel or sealed material into tools your firm has not approved for that use.
Client collaboration
- Invite the client only after you can open the matter yourself.
- Tell clients which portal sections you expect them to use (Messages, Evidence Upload, Approvals).
- When you share a document for approval, say what “Approve” means in plain English in your message.
- If a client says they “didn’t get the email,” have them check spam, then ask firm admin to confirm the invite address.
Billing
- Bill from reviewed time, not from memory.
- Separate trust questions from operating invoices — clients see trust only if your firm enables it in portal settings.
- If online pay is on, send the invoice and confirm the client sees Pay in the portal.
When something looks missing
- Check whether your firm turned the module off (Legal Work, Billing, Trust, Client Collaboration, etc.).
- Check whether your role hides the nav item (trust/accounting are attorney/admin).
- Ask firm admin before assuming a product bug.
